Matthew Morgan signs new Cardiff Blues deal

Cardiff Blues and Wales full-back Matthew Morgan has signed a new long-term contract to stay playing his rugby at the Cardiff Arms Park.

The 25-year-old’s current contract was due to expire at the end of the season, however he has put pen to paper on a deal to stay at Wales’ Capital Region after a strong start to the season.

Arriving from Bristol in the summer of 2016, ‘Nipper’ as he is known has cemented his place in the playing squad, making 43 appearances to date.

Despite some criticism over his defensive performances during the second half of last season, Morgan has returned with aplomb this campaign, winning over fans with some man-of-the-match performances and currently sitting as the club’s top try scorer.

Nipper’s re-signing now takes the number of new contracts agreed in the last few weeks to 10, as the squad for next season continues to build.

Speaking to the official Cardiff Blues website, Morgan said, “I’m happy to have signed and I’m really excited about what we can achieve here, hopefully we can kick on and try to win some silverware.

“I’ve really enjoyed playing at the Arms Park. With the players we have, the 3G pitch suits us down to the ground and I feel like we’re playing some good rugby.

“It’s a pretty special place to play and is amazing when full. In the last few games at home we’ve played some great rugby and shown on our day we can score from anywhere – hopefully we can keep building on that.”
