Posted by The Cardiff Blues age grade sides have swung back into action this last week as the U18s resume their Regional Age Grade campaign after a few weeks off, before the U16s re-commence at the end of the month.
It’s been a different story for the two age categories so far. The U16s enjoyed an excellent first phase of fixtures, as both the North and South finished with 100% records. The North sit atop the table having played and won an extra game, but it sets up a tasty battle of the Cardiff Blues academy in the final round.
For the U18s it was a tough battle though. In their first season of being split between North and South both teams struggled against the united U18s of the four other development regions. The North fared slightly better than the South with a solo win in the first phase of fixtures, leaving them third from bottom, with RGC floundering on no points.
Last weekend saw the Cardiff Blues U18 South redress that, however, as they beat hapless RGC at the Arms Park and gained a try bonus point. The new coaching team of Gareth Nicholas and Sam Campbell being assisted by Josh Turnbull and Macauley Cook.
Unfortunately for the North they started back against league leaders Scarlets, falling to a 19-41 defeat at Sardis Road.
The U18 campaigns continue on Tuesday night in Pontypridd when the inter-Cardiff Blues derby takes place, so get along and support the future of the club for a 7pm kick-off if you can!
