Posted by With the majority of the teams having now played at least seven games in the WRU College League, three Cardiff Blues pathway sides are sitting pretty in the top four as the league slides downhill towards Christmas.
Leading the way in the pathway’s mini-table once again are reigning champions Coleg y Cymoedd, who are currently unbeaten with six wins from six games, and a massive +150 points difference.
Comfortable wins away at Ysgol Glantaf and Coleg Gwent have put them in this commanding position, and were it not for last week’s game at Pembroke College being called off, they’d likely top the table altogether by now rather than in second.
That comes courtesy of third place Glantaf doing Cymoedd a favour in the last round of games, as they beat the always strong Coleg Sir Gar at the Arms Park.
Since losing to Cymoedd in the first round of fixtures, the Cardiff-based Welsh speaking institution put together five straight victories to sit third just two points behind Sir Gar, albeit having played a game more.
That unbeaten run was brought to an end by Cardiff and Vale/Cowbridge last week who have themselves recovered from two defeats to start the season, putting together five straight wins of their own.
They currently sit fourth in the overall table, seven points back from Glantaf and Cymoedd, with three of their next five games away from home.
A bit further down the table is Whitchurch who have suffered from poor home form so far this season, winning just one of their four games in Cardiff.
Longer journeys to Llandrillo, Pembroke and Gower have proved successful, but they will need a strong run-in if they are to improve from their current ninth place.
The next two weeks of WRU College League action certainly throw up some interesting fixtures, with the televised game next week being the Cardiff derby of Whitchurch v Glantaf, before Cymoedd host Cardiff and Vale/Cowbridge on the Wednesday, while the week after the old rivals of Cymoedd and Sir Gar go head-to-head in the live game.
