Posted by Cardiff University RFC and Cardiff Met RFC 1sts play their final regular season BUCS Super Rugby games this week, with fortunes having changed dramatically since Christmas.
Before the winter break Met were going well, with eight wins and three defeats from their 11 games, pushing for the top spot in the table, while Uni were struggling to adjust to life in the competition with just two wins to their name and a battle to avoid the bottom spot.
However, since the competition resumed in 2019, three wins in four games have seen Uni ease away from bottom side Nottingham Trent and even jump Loughborough to sit eighth and secure their BUCS Super Rugby status for next season.
Met, on the other hand, have lost all momentum and have dropped to fourth in the league as they sit bottom of the form table, without a win in six and having lost four games in a row.
This week they make the long trip to Durham knowing a win will secure them the final play-off spot, where they would likely face Exeter, while a loss would leave them fifth and cap a thoroughly disappointing second half of the season.
