Cardiff Blues Women fought bravely at the Arms Park on Sunday, but could not prevent Ospreys Women claiming a third Women’s Regional Championship on the bounce.
Head coach Darren Bool had only made three changes to the team which comfortably beat Merched RGC last time out, and it was one of those who put the hosts in the lead twice during the first half, responding to Ospreys tries.
Rafiuke Taylor returned to the wing, having played against Scarlets Women in round one, and crossed twice, with Robyn Wilkins converting both, to help Cardiff Blues fight back, but an Ospreys penalty gave them a slender 14-17 lead at half-time.
Unfortunately the visitors were just too strong in the second half, scoring twice and forcing the home side into spending 10 minutes with only 14 players, as they lifted the trophy once again.
After a disappointing start to the season with the defeat against Scarlets, Cardiff Blues can be proud of the character shown to get themselves back on track though, with the win at RGC before giving Ospreys a good game on Sunday.
Attention now turns to the national team, with Rowland Phillips set to announce his Wales Women’s squad for a packed Autumn programme shortly.
