Cardiff Met conceded a 79th minute try against defending champions Durham as their BUCS Super Rugby season started with a draw at Cyncoed.
After a tense 65 minutes the scores stood at 6-6, before a Brad Denty try was converted by Brad Roderick-Evans to give the home side a lead. However, Durham camped on the Met line in the final stages of the game and finally pushed over, with the conversion levelling the score at 13-13 as the clock turned red.
Meanwhile at Llanrumney, Cardiff Uni were getting the season underway in style as a dominant opening 40 minutes saw the red and blacks go in 34-3 up at the break with a bonus point secured. Northumbria came back into the game in the second half, but a final scoreline of 43-24 allowed Uni to take all five points.
Both sides now turn their attention to the first Cardiff derby of the season next week as they clash at the Arms Park on Wednesday night at 7.30pm.
